Course Description

Diagnosis will cover the 2017 Classification of Periodontal and Peri-Implant Diseases and Conditions, with emphasis on the practical application examiners expect: correctly staging and grading a periodontitis case from clinical and radiographic data, distinguishing gingivitis from periodontitis, and recognising peri-implant mucositis versus peri-implantitis. The session will work through scenarios to build confidence in rapid, defensible classification under exam conditions. Management will cover the phased treatment approach, including patient education and risk factor control, non-surgical therapy, indications for referral for surgical or regenerative treatment, and supportive periodontal/peri-implant care, with a focus on the treatment-planning and justification skills examiners assess, rather than surgical technique itself. By the end of the session, candidates will be able to confidently classify periodontal and peri-implant cases and articulate an appropriate, evidence-based management plan in an exam setting.
